Up Next: The International Humanitarian Law Moots 2011, 12 and 13 November

Thanks to Dr Sujata of Universiti Malaya for e-mailing the invitation. Dr Azmi must be licking his wounds after Spurs lost 3-0 at Old Trafford. ;-)

Dear Sir/Madam,

The Faculty of Law, University of Malaya has had the honour of organising the International Humanitarian Law Moot Competition (the IHL Moot) with the International Committee of the Red Cross/Crescent (ICRC) for the past six years. This year, the IHL Moot will be held on 12 and 13 November 2011 at the Faculty of Law, University of Malaya.

The ICRC is a non-governmental organisation based in Geneva, Switzerland and one of their functions is to further the education of International Humanitarian law. The IHL Moot competition is one of their efforts towards achieving this noble purpose. The IHL Moot competition has prizes for the best mooter, best memorial and of course, the best team. The winning team goes on to compete at the Regional rounds which will be held in Hong Kong.

We would like to take this opportunity to invite your law faculty/law school to send a team to participate in this year’s IHL Moot competition. Each team comprises of four mooters, namely two mooters for the Applicant and two mooters for the Respondent.

If your faculty/law school would like to send a team, please register with Mr Fork Yow Leong of the ICRC, who may be contacted at 012 6584221 or via email at fyowleong@icrc.org or yowleong69@yahoo.com.

The closing date for registration of teams is 9 September 2011. Upon receiving confirmation of your acceptance to participate, the Moot problem will be released to your institution.

If you have any queries please feel free to get in touch with me at 03 7967 6544 or sujatabalan@um.edu.my.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Sujata Balan

I strongly encourage all law schools in Malaysia, public or private, to take part. It will provide an unforgettable experience for your students.

PS. Mr Fork, if you happen to be reading this, UiTM would like to send more than one team for the competition, if the logistics of the competition permit it. We sent a record 5 teams for the Law Asia Moot 2011. Of the five teams that made it to the final round, two were from UiTM.
